Under-10 Mustangs tops at GSC tourney
Friday July 18 2008
Meghan Rea, left, of the Georgetown Mustangs outruns a Brampton Brams United Green opponent for a loose ball during the Mustangs’ opening round 3-1 win in the Georgetown Soccer Club’s All Star and Select Soccer Tournament’s Girls Under 8 division match played Saturday at Gellert Community Park.

The Georgetown Mustangs used a smothering defence and survived a second game letdown to claim the Boys Under-10 Gold division championship at the Georgetown All Star and Select Soccer Tournament held this past weekend.
The Mustangs, sponsored by Al Ferri & Sons, Castle Building Centres and Custom Print Solutions Inc., were the lone local squad to claim a gold medal although Georgetown teams did reach the finals in three other divisions.
The under-10 squad opened play with a 6-0 romp over Sudbury as Daniel Hardie fired three goals with singles going to Gaetan Fairy, Trevor Jenkins and Brandon Varela.
The locals then fell 3-2 to the Brampton Bulldogs as Josh Greyerbiehl and Hardie found the mark.
Georgetown routed Bolton 7-0 in their third game and, needing a shutout win to advance, blanked Guelph 4-0 to earn a spot in the finals and a rematch against Brampton.
Against Bolton, Nemanja Djuric (2), Roberto Mongiat (2), Fairy, Greyerbiehl and Hardie scored while in the win over Guelph Stephen Inniss, Josh Jenkins, Trevor Jenkins and Mongiat found the net.
In the championship final, Georgetown received goals from Djuric and Trevor Jenkins.
