It’s Acton’s turn this year to get some of its streets updated under the Town’s pavement management program.
Halton Hills council approved contract tenders at its July meeting.
Al-Pak Construction of Milton was awarded the tender of $1.6 million for the resurfacing on Acton Blvd., from Mill to Queen St., on Mill St. E. from Wellington St. to Acton Blvd., on Peel St., from Young St. to Wellington St. and on Perth St., from the CN tracks to Wallace St.
Halton Region will also be doing sanitary sewer and watermain construction on those streets.
The Town’s share of the tender is $689,000 and the Region’s is $894,000. Work should start at the beginning of August. To improve safety in front of McKenzie-Smith Bennett School, curbs and sidewalks will be added on Acton Blvd. The street’s work will be done first to minimize disruption during September.
A second $1.7 million contract was approved by Town council for work on Church St. w., from Victoria Ave. to Main St.; on Church St. W., from Victoria Ave. to Main St.; on Mill St., W., from Victoria Ave. to Main St. and on Willow St., from Mill St. to Church St. E.
The project will include resurfacing, plus sidewalks and storm sewer construction. Halton Region will be replacing sanitary sewers and cast iron watermains. Halton Region council has yet to approve the contract.
The Town’s share of the joint Halton Region/Town project is $847,500. Once Halton Region approval is received, this project will likely start around mid-August.
The pavement management project is a five-year program designed to improve the condition of urban roads. It is solely funded by taxpayers through a dedicated two per cent tax increase on property tax bills from 2004 until 2008. The Town uses that money to repair worn roads, alternating between Acton and Georgetown communities.
