National Youth Week (May 1-7) is winding down but throughout May several activities and events are being planned across the district.

Halton Regional Police take every opportunity to form positive relationships with youth, to counter balance those times when we experience a less-than-friendly interaction. Officers volunteer their personal time and/or, become involved during the course of their duties to partake in most community events involving youth, it allows all participants to gain a new understanding and appreciation of each other.

Some of the events already held include the Halton Hills Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee (MYAC), youth recognition awards. This past Sunday MYAC hosted a popular "coffee house" at the Starlight Caf? in Acton where the youth shared their musical talents, in addition their artistic talents were displayed at the Town of Halton Hills office.

Today through Friday at Christ the King Catholic School the "Smartrisk Heroes Roadshow" hits the stage. Approximately 3,500 high school students will experience a huge theatrical production with state-of-the-art concert style sound and lighting. The upbeat positive messages of taking "smart risks" to prevent injury will be delivered in a candid live talk hosted by an injury survivor. A 7 p.m. show will be available to the community tonight. Check out www.smartrisk.ca.

On May 24 the youth of Acton are hosting a fun day at Prospect Park with lots of exciting activities being planned. Information can be found at www.chance4change.blogspot.com. Local bands, comedians and artists will be showcased during this event.

On May 24 a Risk Watch Safety Blitz will take place at Georgetown District Christian School. Halton fire, police and EMS staff interact with the community in a day of events focused on preventing injuries. Plan on attending these events, support our youth, support our future.
