Through the efforts of citizens, schools, and various groups more than nine tonnes of trash plus two tandem truckloads of wood, four tandem truckloads of tires, and two tandem truckloads of metal were collected.
Every year we are amazed at what some inconsiderate residents will shamelessly toss away and this year was no different. Among those items were used motor oil, dozens of tires, engine parts and even a small freezer.
While this year's clean up effort was quite impressive, we'd be much more impressed if participants collected less garbage each year because then it would mean fewer litterbugs were desecrating our town.
But until the neanderthals who think nothing of depositing hazardous materials (like motor oil) by the roadside or ridding themselves of a freezer by dumping it in a ditch change their ways (or move from this community), we fear those participating in the annual clean up will continue to be busy.
