Food bank needs help
The Georgetown Bread Basket (food bank) is running low on the following items: canned pasta, canned stews and chilis, skim milk powder, regular tea, baby food (jars of fruits) and fruit juice, vegetables, and cereal boxes. If you can help with these items, please put them into the drop box at any of the grocery stores and volunteers will pick them up, or drop off at The Georgetown Bread Basket at 55 Sinclair Ave., Unit 12 Wednesday or Saturday between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.
Acton reunion: The Class of ‘83 Acton High School will be holding a dinner and dance reunion on June 21 at the Holiday Inn, Scottsdale Dr. in                                                                                                                                   Guelph. Collecting books: Georgetown District High School’s Social Justice League is asking the community to donate new or gently-used books for children from kindergarten to Grade 5. Books go to kids in the GTA who may not have access to them at home. Books may be dropped off in the lobby of the Georgetown Branch of the Halton Hills Public Library, or outside the main office at the High School.

Mother’s Day Weekend BBQ: at Georgetown Price Choppers on Guelph St., (weather permitting) Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds to Community Living North Halton.
Trees for Acton: Protect Our Water and Environmental Resources (POWER) is holding a huge community day event, 1,000 Trees for Acton. Plant a tree for Mother Earth and Mother’s Day (the next day); nature hikes; birds of prey. Family and children welcome. The event will be held behind the Acton Arena and Community Centre on Queen St. (Hwy. 7), 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Bottle drive: Halton Hills Hawks Girls Fastball Novice ‘94 team will be holding a bottle drive in Georgetown South area, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Girls will be going door-to-door to collect empty beer and wine bottles. All funds raised will fund their upcoming season. Any and all donations appreciated. Anyone wishing to make a donation that does not live in the Georgetown South area or will not be available on that date, can call 905-702-5314 to arrange a bottle pickup.
Men’s Toonie Breakfast: 8:30-9:30 a.m. at Bethel Church, Acton (across from Home Hardware). Here’s your chance to meet a bunch of guys and have a great meal, all for $2!
Market Stall: fundraiser, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. John’s United Church, 11 Guelph St. Perennials, new books, baked goods, jams, gently used garage sale items. Join us for coffee and muffins while you shop.
Synchro Halton Hills: proudly present its 14th annual Showcase finale, So, you think you can swim, 7 p.m. at the Georgetown Indoor Pool. Tickets are $5 and seating is limited. Info: 416-877-2460.

Yard Sale: The Georgetown Hospital will be having a yard sale, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the hospital courtyard. Free parking. Come out and find a bargain while supporting your local hospital.
Community Unity Day: 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Cedarvale Park. Activities include seniors tea room, barbecue hot dogs and drinks, games, crafts, face painting, balloons and bands. This free event is hosted by the Georgetown and area Ministerial Association.
Bake sale/luncheon: Salvation Army Acton Community Church will be holding a bake sale and soup/sandwich luncheon at the church, 114 Mill St., E. in Acton, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. All funds will go to Overseas Missions. Just in time to get tasty, home-baked treats for mom on Mother’s Day.
Garage/Plant/Bake and Quilt Sale: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. rain or shine at Ballinafad United Church, 14369 Trafalgar Rd. N. Barbecue, breakfast and lunch. Well-loved treasures, Mother’s Day gifts.
Plant sale: Get your garden ready with your first stop at the popular Acton Horticultural Society’s Annual Plant Sale in the olde Hide House parking lot, 8 a.m. til sold out.

Songs for Hope: Wendi, Hugh, Cassie and Mac Hunter will host the 10th annual Songs for Hope: an afternoon picnic/music (by donation), 2-5 p.m. and evening music show (ticketed), 7-12 p.m. Tenth anniversary includes reunion of musicians. Charity BBQ: M&M Meat Shops hosts is annual Charity Barbecue Day, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  to raise funds for Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Can-ada. Locations: Queen St. in Acton and Guelph St. in Georgetown.  Hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and drink for $2.50.

Bruce Trail hike: Level 1, 10 km car pool hike along the side of Grindsone Creek in Waterdown. Gardening workshop: A Garden’s Four Seasons- The First Plant, 1-3 p.m. at the Willow Park Ecology Centre, off Mary St. in Norval. Hands-on practice at choosing, planting and caring for your seedlings. Take away ideas and a special potted garden for your own Mom. Both novice and experienced gardeners are welcome!
Georgetown Runners: are a group of local runners who meet at the Atlantis Family Athletics (Guelph St. and Mountainview Rd.) 8 a.m. Sundays. Job workshop: JBJ Services holds an intensive two-day Interview and Self-marketing Workshop May 12-13 as well as two-day sessions in Georgetown in June. The interactive workshop helps job seekers gain employer perspective while increasing essential preparation skills, autonomy and confidence to sell their value to employers and distinguish themselves from competing applicants during both the interview and all phases of job search.  It is of no cost to the public as all fees are fully covered by Employment Ontario. Bang-O-Rama: The first long weekend of the summer gets off to bang with the annual Optimist Club’s Bang-O-Rama Family Fun Fair at the Georgetown Fairgrounds. Gates open on Friday at 4 p.m. and on Saturday to Monday at 10 a.m.
Movie Madness: 12 p.m. in both Georgetown and Acton library branches. Kids can bring their lunch and “munch to the movies”. Free but limited spaces.

Plant sale: Holy Cross H.E.L.P.S. (Helping Ease Local Poverty and Suffering), 8 a.m. to  2 p.m. at   Holy Cross Church Hall. Many annuals and perennials available.
Perennial Plant Sale: The spring plant sale in support of Norval’s Lucy Maud Montgomery Heritage Garden will be held 9 a.m. to 12 noon outside the Norval Convenience Store (Winston Churchill & Guelph Street). The sale features a variety of perennials from the Lucy Maud Montgomery Heritage Garden as well as local gardens. Come early for a great selection of perennials at bargain prices!
Shrub sale: Glen Williams Town Hall Board hosts its annual shrub sale at St. John’s United Church 533 Main St. in Glen Williams, 8 a.m.  The shrubs have been donated by Sheridan Nurseries.  St. John’s will be selling hanging baskets and pots and you will be able to buy a coffee and muffin while you lineup!
